“He who has called you is faithful & He will do it” - 1 Thes. 5:24
Well it's official. We have been accepted into full time missions this September at Youth With a Mission in Kona, Hawaii for 3 months of instruction and 3 months of outreach (most likely out of the country).
While we prefer to have each of you
over for coffee & dessert (yes, that's an invitation) to share
how this move is all unfolding, we thought it would be helpful to
answer a few questions here about the BIG GO in the meantime:
What the heck are you thinking?
We have wrestled
with this question for longer than we care to admit, but we KNOW its
time. The hardest part is leaving the support of family and the
friendships we treasure with you all at MSC, Crossfit Grizzly, NUS, and
Northgate church. We hope to stay connected through
Facebook and email so we can hear about your family adventures in
the future as well.
How do your kids feel about this?
Zane & Bridger are excited. Of course they associate Hawaii with
vacation. Zane asked months ago, “Mom, if we have everything we
need and we are happy where we're at, why do we need to leave?” We
have been learning about missions and Jesus' command to go into all
the nations- nations that are extremely poor, sometimes dangerous, and maybe haven't heard about Jesus. “Oh I get it!” Zane said with a
spark in his eye, “We need to go so we can help other people
have everything they need and be happy too!” That about sums it up.

But aren't you concerned for your
kid's safety?
Yes, we've taken this up with the Father over and over again as
we prepare. Bottom line: He loves our children more than we do, and He
is trustworthy. Check out this link for a beautiful perspective on
mission field kids:

Ethan has decided to stay in Alaska for his senior year. He will
live in Eagle River and plans to work to save money while he finishes
high school strong. He says he's proud of us:)
Ashton will be graduating from Teen Challenge Hawaii in September!
They have asked him to return as an mentor but he feels like God is
calling him back to Alaska for now. We will treasure our time with
him before we leave on Sept 29th.

How much does that cost?
$8470. 3 mos. Tuition, room & board for Matt & Tina
$8470. 3 mos. Outreach “ “ “
$3600. 3 mos. Tuition, room & board for Zane & Bridger
$3600. 3 mos. Outreach “ “ “
$24,140. TOTAL
+$850./monthly expenses (Medical insurance, auto, gas, groceries
etc...)
We have been saving towards these costs but need financial support
from some of you if you find yourselves in a position to give. We
know each of you are on your own mission right now and have budgeted
to make that work, yet we also know many of you are looking for a way
to give financially to missions and we would love to be a target for
your generosity. WARNING: When you start praying for and giving to
full time missionaries, you may become one. (Thanks N. & M.
Chud:)

Are you sure about this?
YES. We feel that we have heard from the Lord more clearly about this
than any other decision we have ever made together. The most recent
provision was a text we received the day before we were going to put
our house up for sale from our friends in Louisiana who had no idea
about our mission plans for Sept. They told us they had decided to
retire 2 years early from the military and were looking for a home to
rent in Palmer in September! And they want it furnished!
